Why A Career As A Holistic Practitioner Can Be The Right Fit For You

Have you been thinking about a career switch but nothing out there seems to be a good fit? Do you like helping others and want to pursue an occupation doing just that? If you’ve felt that traditional Western medicine has left you with more questions than answers, a career in holistic medicine might be the right move for you. For the past couple of years, people have started to shift their views on exactly how to care and maintain their health. So what exactly does a career as a Holistic Practitioner entail?

Holistic health practices are becoming more mainstream, resulting in increased opportunities for those interested in the study of whole-body care.

So what does a career in Holistic Health look like?

Looking at the broad range of specific careers under the umbrella of Holistic Health, you’ll definitely find a specific focus career that fits your lifestyle. Anywhere from Acupuncture to Ayurvedic medicine, most of these practices have many things in common:

  • Treating the whole person and not just the illness or symptom

  • Focusing on how all the parts of the body work together in treating patients

  • Recognizing how mental health, lifestyle, and environment influence physical health

  • Helping patients advocate for their own health

There are many options when it comes to starting as a holistic health practitioner and it can sometimes be hard to narrow down how exactly how to get started. While you can use holistic practices in just about any healthcare role, several careers are more holistic in nature than others. These are the jobs you probably think of when you think of holistic health. So where do can you begin your journey?

OneDegree Careers has partnered with ICOHS College to provide a great training program for anyone interested in starting in the Holistic Practitioner industry.

Let’s do a quick breakdown on what the program entails. The Holistic Health Practitioner program trains your brain and your body to work as a licensed Massage Therapist in the state of California. After you complete our PMT program, you’ll receive four additional classes in advanced topics and modalities to help you become a more skilled practitioner.

You will learn high-level anatomy and kinesiology content and apply that to the bodywork skills you gain in the program. We give you training in both Eastern and Western modalities, deep tissue, basic Swedish techniques, and special populations.

We also have a course dedicated to starting your own massage therapy business that will give you a working business plan as you leave our program. HHP students also receive training on the following:

  • Hot Stones and basic spa techniques

  • Aromatherapy and Essential oils

  • Energy modalities like reiki/chakra work/crystals

  • Advanced medical massage practice and orthopedic applications

  • Hands-On Experience – you’ll have the opportunity to practice in our student clinic.

Overall, a career as a Holistic Health Practitioner aims to provide information and empowerment to your clients in order for them to reach optimal health. This is done by yourself being as knowledgable as possible and completing the required training and courses to be able to achieve these goals for those that will potentially rely on your expertise.

Starting a career can be daunting, but we are here to help. Learn more about everything ICOHS College has to offer below!
